Today was a nail biter! We were scheduled for our first inspection today for the footings. Knowing that the inspection only takes a few minutes and not wanting to waste a perfectly good day, Phil ordered concrete for this afternoon. Sounds simple, right? Arrangements were made and the concrete company was scheduled to come at 2:00pm giving us more than enough time to get the inspection done. Or so we thought. We neglected to take into consideration that the inspector might leave us until the last possible job of the day. We started to get nervous around 2:30pm when we still hadn't heard from him. The concrete company was very gracious and allowed us to postpone for a while. Our last check in with them, they gave us until 3:30 to start which was more than fair. Who wants to start pouring concrete after dark on a Friday night? 3:30 came and went and still no inspector. We had pretty much given up any hope of being able to pour concrete but we still hoped that we could at least pass inspection today so we could pour on Monday. New problem, the concrete trucks were scheduled to go somewhere else on Monday so we were not even sure now when we would be able to pour. Need I also mention that the weather has been incredibly mild but it is not supposed to last too much longer? At long last, the inspector pulled up. It was 3:47pm and at 3:48pm I sheepishly phoned the concrete company to tell them the inspector had finally arrived, but I was fully expecting them to tell me that it just wasn't going to happen. Understandably, the truck drivers, believing that the inspector wasn't going to show in time, had left for the day. But then an amazing thing happened. Doug told me to hang on, he was going to see what he could do. It took the inspector less than 5 minutes to approve the footings and when Doug phoned back, he had managed to track down drivers that were willing to come back!! The trucks pulled up just as it was getting dark, 2 cement trucks and a pumper truck and bless their hearts, they poured our footings. Thank you Lord for hearing our prayers this afternoon and thank you to Doug and the drivers for going the extra mile!
While we were working and waiting for the inspector to arrive, the truck came to drop off the forms for the walls.
I worked my first 8 hour day today with Phil and the boys and Hannah graciously watched the younger girls for me and made lunch for everyone. (Thank you Hannah! Love her!!) I also have to say, I have a new appreciation for the work these guys do. Not that I didn't appreciate it before, just more now. (my feet are still hurting!)
The forms are lowered in by crane. We watched while we ate.
Ben and Matty! <3
A gorgeous sunset but, at this point, we had mostly given up hope of pouring concrete. Silly us.
It's already getting dark as the trucks show up.
Phil mans the hose and the boys trowel like mad men. My shift was over so I held the light and took pictures. ;-)
Filling the footing forms.
A hub of activity well after dark.
The finished product. What a beautiful sight!
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
Psalm 107:8
So fun to see the answers to prayers we prayed without knowing what the exact need was for today...isn't the Lord just so very good to us?? Hugs all around. Big hugs to Hannah for her work in the kitchen and with the little ones. Firm handshakes to the muddy men. ;-)
