An excavator and a fire truck. When you see these two things in a picture together it can only mean a couple of things.
1. You randomly got a picture of a fire truck in the background while taking a picture of the excavator.
2. You accidentally got the excavator in the picture while taking pictures of a fire truck. From far away. At night. With poor lighting.
Or
3. While digging the last few feet of trench before the end of the day, your excavator operator hit the gas line and the fire truck is there to help the emergency gas people turn the gas off.
Sigh.
We are not exactly sure what went wrong. We had permission to dig there and yet a few feet before the fence line, where we were intending to stop and let the gas company take over, we hit the gas line. We are so thankful that they were able to get the gas shut off quickly and that nobody was hurt.
We did manage to get the septic system and field backfilled before all of the excitement. After testing the whole system. With fresh water, of course.
Here is what the system looks like. Some of you might want to skip this part but I know there are some (Hi Dad!) who will be interested in what system we went with.
The water comes from the house into the tank where it eventually makes its way here and stays until the float system fills up.
Once it fills up, it "flushes", no pun intended, out to the distribution box.
It travels down this pipe to...
...the distribution box where it then sends the water out...
...through these pipes to be evenly distributed...
... in the septic field.
Like this.
Everyone came out to watch the system being tested.
Even the cats!
The cats eventually got bored of the whole thing or maybe they just decided that Phil's jacket was a better place to rest and watch from there. Either way, they are a pretty cute bunch!
There you have it, everything you ever wanted to know (or perhaps didn't want to know and in that case, I'm sorry) about the inner workings of our septic system.
♡♡♡
Sometimes, you just need to get out for a walk and enjoy the gorgeous weather.
Perfect weather.
Can you believe it's the end of October and we are still out without jackets?
Just gorgeous.
And speaking of the end of October......
Can she really be 5 already?
Enjoying her birthday presents.
And what kind of birthday would it be without a trip to the dentist? (Well, for me, a great one!!) Lydia is showing me how she is going to open wide for the dentist.
♡♡♡
Sometimes the days are long. And sometimes they bring trouble. It's these days that I envy the faith of a child. The kind of faith that doesn't worry but truly believes that daddy will make it all turn out right.
The kind of faith that I long for.
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
Matthew 18:1-5

I enjoyed the lesson on how it all works....and, I am in favour of testing with clear water.....good idea! So sorry you had a mishap with a gas line...but, thankful that it all turned out well. Happy birthday to your Lydia!!! 5?!! Crazy how quickly those years flew by. XOXO
