Applying Stain

Phil has been applying the stain to the floor this week. It can be a tricky business getting started, especially since it's not something we do regularly but like most things, once you get going, it gets easier. Keep in mind, we haven't applied any finish yet so this is just stain. But I like it already!

Getting the last of the sanding cleaned up.

Where's a good place to start? Ah, yes, a closet!

Nice and inconspicuous in case we need to change anything.

No need to change anything. It looks beautiful!

Yup, we like it. Time to move on to the next room.

Sometimes it looks more red and sometimes more brown, it depends on the lighting.

What I like the most about having a real wood floor, and fir particularly, is that no two pieces are exactly the same. Each piece soaks the stain differently and brings its own unique look to the overall picture.

The mixture of some lighter and some darker adds to the character of the floor...

...and gives a rustic old farm house feel to the whole house.

The flash didn't work here so it's not picking up the red hue so much.

The master bedroom.

The master bathroom.

A couple different angles from the next day with no flash, just natural lighting.

It's so pretty! And exactly what we were hoping for!!

And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.
