Water Woes

Normally, the sight of an excavator in the yard is a sign of progress. Things are getting done.

Normally.

Occasionally though, it means there is trouble. Like today. On the weekend, we noticed water bubbling out of the ground by the well. Now I'm no expert but even I know that is not a good sign. We turned off the water off at the pump to try and figure it out. I'm pretty sure I don't need to say that for a family of 9 to go without running water is, well, interesting. Really, for a family of any size, to go without water is a big deal. It made us realize how much we really appreciate running water and perhaps, sometimes take it for granted. It seems like a lot of chores here involve water. Laundry. Dishes. Washing the floor. Cleaning the bathroom. Hmmmm. I'm really hoping for a quick fix here.

A bubbly spring where one shouldn't be.

Very thankful for strong boys to help but it soon became apparent that we were going to need more help. A lot more help. This was like looking for a needle in a very large, proverbial haystack.

Now that will get the job done in a hurry.

We found the water pipes pretty quickly. Now to diagnose the problem.

It seems a hose coupler had rusted through.

Two hands make lighter work as the excavator operator lends a hand.

As per usual, curiosity got the better of just about everyone and pretty quickly, a crowd had formed.

Even these two came to see.

It's a good thing it didn't take too long. These guys just about turned themselves inside out trying to see what was going on!

It might not be pretty but it did the job! Thank you Lord! And all who helped!

All of the youngest exploring together!

Oh kitty, you have no idea!

With the morning gone looking after the water issues, it's time to get back to work on the floor. It's not going to finish itself!

You can see where the floor is finished and where it still needs to be buffed in the far corner. We were even able to put some furniture in the living room though. EEEEK!! They will have to stay covered with sheets but still.... furniture....in the living room!!!!! *Happy Dance*

The master bedroom.

The boys room is getting there.

While we wait for the floor to polymerize, we turn our attention back outside.

The majority of the soffit is finished.

And we picked up the wood to build the stairs. Pretty soon, we won't need to climb up onto the porch. Yay!!

We are so thankful that our water issues were fixed fairly quickly and easily and with relatively little inconvenience and expense. Water is one of those things that we just can't live without. Sure, how we obtain our water may differ depending on where we live but the simple fact is that you will not survive without it. I am so incredibly thankful that our water comes to us inside our house with the turn of a knob. Heated even, if we want. We are blessed indeed. May we always remember that and be thankful for it.

Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

John 4:13-14

  1. Glad you had some mechanical help to make the job quicker! It's no fun when unexpected emergencies derail the progress.
