Foiled Again

The weather has just not been cooperating with us. We were all set for work Saturday morning and this is what we woke up to...

The rain let up around lunch time but by that time, the effect of no roof on the house had already left its mark. And just when things had been drying out so nicely.

The good thing about all this rain though is that things are growing!! What a difference a week makes! Everything is taking on a nice green hue. I love it!

We finished rototilling the garden area but it will have to be done again before we plant. Maybe several more times if the boys keep fighting over the rototiller!

Can you tell we are super eager to put our garden in this year?

This part of the field is still a bit wet from the rain.

The cows still love to get in there though. It's a good thing that there isn't very much grass there yet. We don't want them to transition from hay to fresh grass too quickly or it could make them sick.

These ladies are having all kinds of fun finding treasures in the fresh ground. We fully agree with Joel Salatin in respecting the "chickenness of the chicken" and I love to see them busy around the farm scratching in the dirt.

Back to work we go. Here is where we had left off. You can see there is still some strapping to do on the far side.

The fascia is mostly on but still needs to be put on the peaks.

That's Phil. It's not dangerous enough as it is, so let's take the power tools up there too. I know, I know, it's necessary. Ugh. (I don't know where the boys get it.)

Putting the fascia on one side...

The benefit to being the guy tied on is that you can sit and take a break while the runner goes for more supplies. Just don't expect me to bring your snack up there.

 Got..to..get..it..just..right.

And with this side done, it is finally ready for the roof. It's anyone's guess what the weather will do this week, however.

I worked with Ben and Hannah in the basement for most of the afternoon. We made a good team spreading these rocks out. Keep in mind, this job is usually done by a bobcat. We did it with shovels and a wheel barrow. There was no way a bobcat was going to get in there now.

Please, please tell me you see a difference in that pile from when we started. I think it will make how sore I was at the end of the day seem more worthwhile.

I think.

The clouds threatened to open up all afternoon but they managed to behave themselves quite nicely.

After the morning deluge, that is.

The sun tried really hard to break through and was eventually successful.

Aah, love that blue sky.

We've been waiting for the sun for a while to finish this job. To dry up the house and provide a safer environment to work on the roof. It's an interesting thing to be so concerned about the sun. These past few days, it has consumed our thoughts. Determined our schedule. We hope for the sun, wait for the sun, watch for the sun.

(You see where I'm going to go with this, right?)

How much more then should we be concerned with the Son? Does He consume our thoughts? Determine our schedule? Do we hope and wait and watch for Him?

May we learn to if He doesn't and if we don't.

And may we also look forward to the day when the light of the sun will be replaced by the light of the Son.

What a glorious day that will be! !

And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
