I have to admit, I'm feeling a little anxious about winter this year. I guess being in a new place, there are so many things we don't know. Things like, exactly how much snow will we get? (We were warned to expect much more snow at this higher elevation than we are used to.) Will we stay as warm as we are used to without a wood stove? (We've only had 4 out of our 20 married years without a woodstove or fireplace. We love wood heat!) How will my rear wheel drive full size van handle the hills coming up to our house? All we can really do is wait and see and prepare the best we can. So that's what we've been doing.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!! (just kidding, really!)
Clearing the driveway will be somewhat easier with this. After much research of what kind of tractor to get and given our needs and budget, we went with a BCS two wheel tractor. If you are interested in more information on them, you can read about them here and here. It's not a conventional tractor but then, is anything about us conventional? :-) We also have a rototiller attachment for it. Lord willing, there will be gardening this spring!!
Maybe I'm a little biased but who wouldn't want a tractor designed by someone named Luigi who also happens to own Ferrari? :-)
We have been having such warm weather. It's hard to believe that it's November and there is still grass. It can change quickly though so in preparation for hay feeding, the cows needed to be moved from the back pasture up to the front.
We bought round bales from our neighbour and he even delivered them. How neighbourly of him and how convenient for us!
Our version of a hay feeder. It's actually a calf hutch but it will work.
The cows can enjoy what's left of the front pasture until the snow arrives.
Oh, hello. They are so curious about everything.
The chickens have decided they much prefer to be outside so they are free ranging during the day. It is so much fun to watch them scratching in the dirt. It's kind of, therapeutic. I know, I'm weird.
There is a gravel pit out in the back so we filled buckets of gravel to keep in the back of the van for the snow. We used to live close to an ice cream store so we would collect their empty buckets. Who knew they actually would come in handy some day?
Everybody helps. It's more fun than work for some though.
Ready to stack in the barn and in the van.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and who wants to be dull? There were screams of delight as Phil took the children (and me) for some 4X4ing in the woods. OK, it's possible some of the screams were from me and they were not of delight. Just saying.
Coming back down, slowly. :-)
Time for a snuggle with Dad at the end of the day.
Winter will come. It always does. Whether we want it to or not. The Lord will provide. He always does. How can I possibly doubt that? Especially after the way He has provided for us so far? Seriously, my faith is so small somedays. I continue to look for the balance between being anxious for nothing and it being ok to look ahead and plan knowing that the Lord will direct our steps. For now, I will choose to enjoy this day. We haven't been given tomorrow. Tomorrow will have its own troubles. Of that, I'm sure. That's ok though. He is already there and He will provide. Of that, I'm also sure.
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? Or Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the is morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Matthew 6:25-34
